The Constitution coins were minted to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the United States Constitution. Four different coins were minted: proof and uncirculated dollars; and proof and uncirculated $5 gold coins. The dollar, composed of 0.900 fine silver, was designed by Patricia Lewis Verani, and features a quill pen over a stack of parchment on the obverse and a group of Americans on the reverse. The $5 gold coin is composed of 0.900 pure gold and was designed by Marcel Jovine. The obverse features an eagle holding a quill pen and the reverse features another quill pen under the words "We the People". The coins were issued singly, in two coin sets (both uncirculated or both proof coins) and in a four coin set in a cherry wood box.
